Jay Jay French “Graffiti” Guild Star-88 Tee

At the 1984 NAMM show, Jay Jay French felt like royalty. With Stay Hungry selling over a million records, Twisted Sister had finally become the world-class band they’d always dreamed of being.

Jay Jay, a longtime Gibson guitarist, made his way to the Gibson booth expecting a warm welcome—especially since Marshall Amplifiers had just given him six full stacks. But when he told the Gibson team he lived in Manhattan, they simply replied, "Go to 48th Street and buy a guitar."

Feeling brushed off, Jay Jay left and eventually met the president of Guild Guitars at NAMM, who was shocked by Gibson’s response. Guild immediately offered him an endorsement on the spot.

In 1985, Twisted Sister released their Come Out and Play LP. Guild provided Jay Jay with a Star-88 model, in addition to other Guild models, which he commissioned an artist to decorate with a graffiti-inspired design. This iconic guitar accompanied him throughout the Come Out and Play tour.
