Jay Jay French "Dragon" Destroyer Tee

In 1976, Jay Jay French and his Twisted Sister guitar partner, Eddie Ojeda, acquired Ibanez Destroyer guitars. These instruments were near-perfect replicas of the iconic 1958 Gibson Explorers, with only 400 Destroyers released to the American market.

At $400 each, both Eddie and Jay Jay seized the opportunity to own one.

Jay Jay later entrusted his guitar to builder and refinisher Steve Carr, requesting a black finish and the “Twisted Sister” name on the headstock. One final touch was added: a gold dragon on the upper bout, a detail that became the guitar’s signature look.

This guitar became Jay Jay’s main stage instrument for years, especially during Twisted Sister’s early bar days. It made one of its last prominent appearances in the “You Can’t Stop Rock and Roll” music video, where it sported a mirrored pickguard.
